Google AI Overviews and AI Mode
The AI answers inside Google Search itself. I track when overviews appear for your queries, whether your pages are cited, and how that changes as Google AI Mode expands across the UK.
AI Services · Tracking
When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google's AI for a recommendation, is your brand in the answer? Right now you do not know. AI visibility tracking gives you the answer, in numbers, every month: how often your brand appears across AI platforms, what the AI says about you, and who is being recommended instead.
This is a done-for-you service, not another dashboard to learn. I set it up, run it and tell you what it means.
The what
AI visibility tracking is the discipline of measuring how your brand appears in AI answers. Traditional SEO tools tell you where you rank in search results. They say nothing about whether ChatGPT recommends you, whether your pages are cited in Google AI Overviews, or whether Perplexity sends readers to your competitor every single time.
Tracking closes that gap. A consistent set of prompts, the questions your customers genuinely ask, is run across the major AI platforms on a schedule. Every answer is recorded and scored: was the brand mentioned, was a page cited, what was said, and who else appeared. Over weeks and months that becomes a visibility score you can act on, per platform and per topic.
The point is not measurement for its own sake. Once you can see how your brand appears across AI answers, you can change it, and every part of my AI search work is aimed at exactly that.
The why
AI answers are becoming a front door to your market, and it is a door you cannot see through from your own analytics. When an AI assistant answers a customer directly, no click reaches your site and no report captures the moment your brand was, or was not, recommended. The visit you lost simply never happened.
The brands that appear in those answers compound their advantage. AI models favour brands they already see cited, reviewed and mentioned across the web, so early visibility earns more visibility. Waiting until AI search is undeniably huge means starting from behind, against competitors the models already trust.
There is a defensive reason too. AI answers get things wrong: old prices, discontinued services, a competitor credited with your work. If nobody is watching, mistakes about your brand sit in front of customers indefinitely. Monitoring means you find out in days, not never, and can fix the sources the models learn from.
And if you are already investing in SEO or in AI search optimisation, tracking is simply how you know it is working. Visibility across ai platforms is the outcome; this is the measurement.
The coverage
Coverage across the major ai platforms your customers actually use, tracked with the same prompt set so the numbers are comparable.
The AI answers inside Google Search itself. I track when overviews appear for your queries, whether your pages are cited, and how that changes as Google AI Mode expands across the UK.
The assistant your customers are most likely to ask for recommendations. I monitor how often your brand is mentioned in its answers, in what context, and against which competitors.
The AI search engine built on citations. Perplexity links its sources openly, which makes it a clear signal of whether your content is considered quotable.
The rest of the major AI platforms, tracked so you can see whether your visibility is consistent everywhere or strong in one model and invisible in another.
The numbers
Plenty of AI visibility tools produce charts. The value is in a handful of numbers, tracked consistently.
How often AI answers name your brand at all. The rawest measure of whether the models know you exist.
How often your pages are linked as sources. Citations are stronger than mentions: the AI is not just aware of your brand, it is sending people to you.
Your visibility as a percentage of the answers in your market, tracked against named competitors. The number that shows whether you are winning or losing ground.
What the AI actually says about your brand. Wrong prices, dead products and outdated claims in AI answers cost real customers, and you cannot fix what you have never seen.
The tools
The market has gone from empty to crowded in about two years. Specialist visibility platforms like Peec AI and Scrunch AI sit alongside LLM tracking features inside the big SEO suites: Semrush's AI toolkit, Ahrefs' Brand Radar, SE Ranking's AI visibility tracker, Nightwatch and more. Every month brings a new "best AI visibility tracking tools" list, and most of them are written by the vendors.
What actually matters in a tracking tool is fairly short. Platform coverage: does it track AI answers across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Google's AI features, or just one or two? Prompt tracking that mirrors the questions your customers really ask, not generic keywords. A clear split between mentions and AI citations, because they mean different things. And AI visibility data you can export and set beside your rank tracking, so one story emerges rather than two.
My honest view: the tool matters less than the discipline. I monitor AI answers with whichever visibility tool fits your size and budget rather than reselling one platform, and the reporting you receive is the same either way: plain English, your brand, your numbers, your competitors, monthly.
The payoff
Tracking tells you where your brand stands. The point is moving it. When your AI brand visibility lags behind a competitor, the fixes live in familiar territory: content that answers real questions, structured data that explains who you are, and the reviews and mentions across the web that teach every AI engine to trust your brand.
The encouraging pattern from the data: improving brand visibility in one LLM usually lifts the others, because the models learn from overlapping sources. An AI mention in ChatGPT this quarter has a habit of becoming a citation in Perplexity the next. Small, consistent gains compound, which is exactly why measuring monthly beats checking once.
That improvement work is my AI search optimisation service. The AI search visibility numbers from tracking tell it exactly where to aim, and prove afterwards that it worked.
The process
I build a prompt set around your services, locations and competitors, then record how every major AI platform answers today. That first report is usually eye-opening on its own.
The same prompts run continuously, so mention rates, citations and share of voice become trend lines instead of anecdotes. AI visibility data only means something over time.
Each month you get the movement, what caused it, and what I am doing next: content, structured data, entity and authority work that turns tracking into growth. If you just want the tracking and reporting without the SEO work, that is fine too.
Questions
The questions that come up in every first call. Anything else, ask away.
AI visibility tracking is measuring how often, and how favourably, your brand appears in AI-generated answers: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot and Claude. In practice it means running a consistent set of real customer questions through the major AI platforms on a schedule, and recording whether your brand is mentioned, whether your pages are cited, and who appears when you do not.
Because a growing share of buying decisions now starts with an AI answer rather than a list of links, and none of that shows up in your analytics. Someone asks ChatGPT for the best option, gets three names, and visits one website directly. If you are not one of the three names, you never see the visit you lost. Tracking makes that invisible layer of search visible.
A mention is the AI naming your brand in its answer. A citation is the AI linking your page as a source. Mentions build awareness; citations drive traffic and signal that the models trust your content. A healthy profile grows both, and the gap between them tells you what to fix.
It is relative, not absolute. Being mentioned in 30% of relevant answers is excellent in a crowded national market and poor if you are the dominant local specialist. The honest benchmark is your competitors: track the same prompts for them, and aim to close the gap query by query. That is how I report it.
Roughly, yes: ask the platforms your own questions and note what comes back, and free ai visibility checker tools from the big SEO vendors give a snapshot. The limits show quickly. Answers vary by user and phrasing, so one-off checks mislead, and manual testing does not scale past a handful of prompts. Proper tracking is about consistent measurement over time.
Strongly. AI systems lean on the same signals that drive rankings: crawlable content, authority, and a brand that the web talks about. Pages that rank well are cited more, and brands with strong reviews and mentions get recommended more. That is why I run rank tracking and ai visibility side by side; they explain each other.
